SUMMARY:Neonatal Neurology (NeoNATE)- Liverpool
DESCRIPTION:The aim of this course is to improve neonatal neurological education and therefore improve the diagnosis and management of neonates with neurological disorders. \nBy the end of the NeoNATE course\, participants will be able to: \n\nKnow how to perform a neonatal neurological examination\nRecognise seizure from non-seizure movement\nConsider the advantages and disadvantages of amplitude integrated EEG (cerebral function monitoring) and standard EEG\nKnow how to interpret basic amplitude integrated EEG traces and EEG reports\nDemonstrate how to order a standard EEG effectively\nUnderstand what encephalopathy is\, how to assess and grade its severity\nLook for clues for hypoxic and other causes of encephalopathy\nUnderstand current thinking on neuroprotection in hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy\nRecognise common MRI features in encephalopathy\nKnow the causes of seizures that are not related to hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy\, including seizure syndromes seen in neonates\nUnderstand current treatment options for neonatal seizures\nUnderstand the basics of MRI\nConsider ways of prognosticating acute brain injuries and feel more confident in providing prognostic information to families on the neonatal unit\nKnow the presentation of neonatal stroke and long term prognosis\nAssess a floppy and stiff neonate and decide on the anatomical locality of the abnormality\nUnderstand currently thinking on the causes of preterm brain injury\nImprove knowledge of long term prognosis of preterm brain injury\nKnow when to ask for help from other specialists\n\nThis course has been developed for: \n\nConsultant Neonatologists and neonatal grid trainees\nConsultant Paediatric Neurologists and neurology grid trainees\nConsultant Paediatricians who provide neonatology services in DGHs and paediatric trainees\nAdvanced neonatal nurse practitioners / nurse consultants\n\nIf you are not currently a practising clinician or you hold a different job role to those listed above\, please contact a member of the Short Course Team on +44(0) 1204 526 002 or email us at shortcourses@bpna.org.uk to discuss if you should attend this course. \nCost: GBP 485.00 \nReduced Cost: GBP 440.00 Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners only \nCPD Points: 12.
