SUMMARY:Paediatric Epilepsy Training 3 (PET3) - Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:PET3 focuses on epilepsies presenting in older children and adolescents and transition to adult services. (PET2 focuses on epilepsy in infants and younger children). You are expected to attend the whole 2-days. Participation is expected at the course in order for you to recieve your certificate. \nIt is recommended that paediatric trainees and consultants attend PET2 and PET3. There is no requirement for adult neurology trainees and consultants to attend PET2\, although you are very welcome. \nPET3 is a 2-day course delivered by a faculty of Consultant Paediatric Neurologists and Consultant Paediatricians with a special interest in epilepsy. The format of the course consists of large and small group sessions (maximum 8 in each group). \nBy the end of the PET3 course\, participants will be able to: \n\nunderstand reflex seizures and photosensitivity\nconsider common and relevant diagnostic issues regarding events with headache and/or visual symptoms\nconsider common and relevant diagnostic issues regarding nocturnal events\nconsider presentations and differentials of events presenting as altered behaviour\nappreciate the variety and limitations of the available evidence for making an informed choice of anti seizure medication\nconsider evidence base and treatment options applied to ‘real life’ scenarios\nconsider common EEG pitfalls\nconsider how EEG can occur with semiology\nexplore different therapies which help children with ‘pharmaco-resistant epilepsy’\nimprove our knowledge of regulation\, risks and reasonable precaution\ndiscuss case studies in which epilepsy presents later in childhood and adolescence\nconsider the practicalities of discussing risk of death and ASMs in pregnancy\nreflect on a range of strategies regarding risk communication\ndiscuss the importance of recognising common associated conditions in children with epilepsies\nconsider effective communication strategies with young people and their families about their epilepsy and related issues\nexplore the role of the clinician and specialist nurse in promoting independence of the young person\ndiscuss risks and benefits of ASM withdrawal\n\nCourse fees: \nCost: GBP 485.00\nReduced Cost: GBP 440.00 Nurses and Allied Health Professionals\, eg EEG technicians\, Dietitians \nCPD Points: 12. SUMMARY:Paediatric Epilepsy Training 2 (PET2) - Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:PET2 has been developed to improve practice within childhood epilepsies. It is a 2-day course\, consisting of interactive large and small group sessions. You are expected to attend the whole 2-days. Participation is expected at the course in order for you to recieve your certificate. \nPET2 concentrates on general aspects of the epilepsies (history taking\, differential diagnosis\, investigation etc) and epilepsies encountered in infants and young children. PET3 concentrates on epilepsies presenting in older children and adolescents.
