The Academy of Medical Educators is pleased to bring you our next AoME Insights webinar.
Teaching for transfer of learning.
A major challenge for all educators is to ensure that learners can successfully apply past learning and experiences to new situations that may be similar or different, and also at a varying time from the initial time of learning. Insights from educational and cognitive science theories highlight the important role of educators in developing the deeper conceptual knowledge of learners and in structuring learning experiences to enhance the potential for successful transfer of learning. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences of teaching for transfer of learning and to share their own approaches.
Format
The meeting will consist of short presentations and group discussions, with a brief comfort break and opportunities for questions.
Learning Objective
- To increase understanding of the multi-dimensional nature of transfer of learning
- To apply a variety of educational and cognitive science theories for enhancing transfer of learning
- To develop a practical approach for enhancing transfer of learning in their own practice
