Join us in Bristol for the PEM Conference 2026!

This RCEM–RCPCH combined programme delivers a focused, high-impact day designed around the realities of contemporary Paediatric Emergency Medicine practice.

The programme follows the patient encounters from babies to adolescents, combining keynote insights with themed panel discussions that address both everyday challenges and high-stakes scenarios.

Early sessions explore infant health, including vaccine hesitancy, allergy prevention, and neonatal considerations.

The focus then shifts to the care of sick children in district general hospitals, trauma, and lessons from humanitarian and conflict settings. The afternoon centres on adolescent emergency care, addressing complex medical, mental health, safeguarding, and sexual assault presentations, alongside candid discussions around trauma outcomes and resilience.

The day concludes with reflections on leadership, team working, and the evolving role of the emergency clinician. Practical, relevant, and thought-provoking, this programme offers valuable learning for clinicians involved in paediatric emergency care.

Learning objectives

  • Apply updated approaches to the assessment and management of paediatric emergency presentations across all age groups.
  • Improve clinical decision-making and team working in high-pressure and trauma settings.
  • Communicate effectively around sensitive and complex issues involving children, young people, and families.
  • Reflect on leadership roles and professional resilience within paediatric emergency care.

Abstract submissions

Abstracts are invited for the opportunity to present at the PEM conference 2026, on Thursday 2 July 2026 in Bristol.

We welcome submissions across all aspects of paediatric emergency medicine, including quality improvement projects, interesting case reports, and research initiatives undertaken within the last two years.

The top three abstracts will be selected for 8-minute oral presentations at the conference, with additional successful submissions invited to present their work as poster presentations.

This is an excellent opportunity to present at a national meeting, exchange ideas, and share learning with colleagues from across the country. Presenters will receive formal confirmation of participation, which may be used for revalidation, appraisal, and portfolio evidence.

Successful applicants will be required to register for the conference. Please note that RCEM is unable to reimburse travel expenses, accommodation, or registration fees.

The deadline for abstract submission is Tuesday 15 April 2026 at 23:59 BST. All applicants will be notified of the outcome on or after 6 May 2026.
